make friends with librarian

Is it your first year of teaching?  I know it's easy to feel overwhelmed with all the things you have to do before the kids actually come to school. Just remember you are not alone, and there are colleagues who can support you, like librarians. Being a librarian, I always try to help out the first-year teachers and offer assistance whenever they need.

Memories of summer

Some of my favorite childhood memories are those first days of summer. School was out, no homework, getting to be outside all day long and even after dark, catching lightning bugs, sleeping late and just being outside enjoying nature. The tall oak tree in our back yard was my favorite spot for summer. Oh, the books I read and dreams I dreamed as I played the days away. Glorious summer!

More than words

Ever heard the song, “More than Words”, by Extreme? It’s a fantastic description of how our non-verbal actions communicate what we believe and feel more than the words that we say. Those non-verbal actions were the heart and soul of my classroom and what I believe differentiate a good teacher from a great teacher.
